Week 16

Idea #14: Remix is the Art of Your Time!

For my remix activity I decided to go to all of my classmates’ blog posts and pick the fifth word that I saw and then make like a random sentence using all of the fifth words from their blog posts so I couldn’t have been able to complete this assignment without the help of my classmates and their blog posts.

The freedom of the internet culture is that you have the ability to say or do whatever you want without anyone knowing who you really are in person unless you put your face in your profile picture which brings me to the fear of the internet culture which is that people will try to harass or stalk you if you aren’t being careful so stay safe out there fellow samaritans.

My thoughts about copyright that it is a totally okay thing to do if you don’t want your own ideas or creativity to be taken or stolen away and then having it being branded as not yours. I don’t really know that much about copyright except that if you steal an idea and don’t give credit to the original creator then you can get in trouble like in YouTube.

I didn’t choose any license for my work because I didn’t really think it was necessary but if someone were to use my “ideas” I would just want them to ask me for permission if they wanted to use it.

The way that I did my remix activity was by doing it like a sort of poem as described from Glenn in the activities index and so I went to all of my classmates’ blog posts and took the fifth word that I saw to make a random sentence. The surprises that came with this activity was that there were some words that were constantly being used and the way I kept track of that was by putting tally marks under the words that I would see more than once. The challenges for this activity was that most of the sentences didn’t really make sense as in the grammar sense. I don’t think there was an insight for the sentences but it could have an insight depending on the person that reads it.

Week 15

Idea #14: The Street is a great place for Art

While I was doing this activity I just wanted to draw my name but then I thought that that might be too plain and boring so I added a few more things and then I thought that I might as well draw my Chinese name in bubble letters since I’m already adding other things to my “art piece”. This activity made me see how you can feel good about the things that you create and so when I finished drawing my name using bubble letters it made me feel good about myself since I am not good at being the creative type.

Week 14

Idea #13: Art can be sustainable?

My idea was to show that there are things that will always have to be thrown away and you will have to renew some stuff that you use in your daily life.

The materials that I used was my dad’s old tv, an empty box of the new toilet that we had installed, an old heater, cardboard that I had to fold in order to make it look more artistic, plastic bags that were full of random stuff, old water gallon jugs, and the recycling bin to use as a stand to make sure that everything could stay in place.

I think that my piece was able to express my idea because I had to use a lot of old stuff and other stuff that we were throwing away and so using thrown away things to represent my idea that everything can go to waste was a good way of showing this idea.

The choice of materials influenced the experience of my artwork by making it fun because me and my family had to kind of clean the house and the backyard to get the thrown away stuff and it was fun that we did something together.

A kiss should last as long as your significant other wants.

A great meal should last until your whole family has a fun conversation together.

A work of art should last as long as it influences other people.

A marriage should last until death do us part.

A human life should last until the human has made his/her dream come true and is satisfied with all the things that he/she has done.

The fact that some things, like ephemeral artworks and human lives, have a finite lifespan and then are gone in a heartbeat does make a difference in how we experience them because it makes us want to spend more time with these things because we know that they disappear from our lives in the blink of an eye.

Other things, like clean water, air, and land should not be sustainable and long lasting because if that happens then we as humans will take everything for granted and never fully appreciate these things.

One person, like me, cannot make a difference in a global problem like Climate Change because everyone has to come together in order to make a positive change in the world and a single person will always need help from others in order to achieve such a great feat.

Week 13

Idea #12: The Internet is an Art Gallery

The theme of my virtual art gallery is popularity and my virtual art gallery will show drawings that have popular people/characters in them. The idea for this art gallery is to show you some characters/people that you might not know about and bring light onto them. I picked these 3 artists because they are my real-life friends and I couldn’t join the virtual field trip that was on Thursday so I decided to contact my friends and see if they wanted to play online which they did and then I asked them if I could use their drawings. I asked them because I knew that their drawings are really good and I couldn’t find any artists in the games that I play in since I am a shy person.

In GTA Online with my real-life friends(Far left is Matty, middle left is Stephanie, middle right is Joe, and far right is Angel).

These three drawings are from my friend Angel(PS4: zFluxity) and the drawing on the top left is XXXTentacion who was a rapper that died in 2018, the one on the bottom left is Mac Miller who was also a rapper that died in 2018, and the one on the right is Tokoyami Fukugame from the anime series My Hero Academia. The thing that I see important in these drawings is that my friend wanted to have a remembrance of the two musical artist that he liked but he also wanted to draw this anime character to show how he likes all three of them.

These four drawings are from my friend Joe(PS4: JobzTheOtaku) and the drawing to the far left is probably Eijiro Kirishima from the anime series My Hero Academia, the one in the middle left is a random anime girl, the one in the middle right is probably Ken Kaneki from the anime series Tokyo Ghoul, and the one in the far right is another random anime girl. The thing that I see important in these drawings is that my friend Joe really loves anime and drawing so he wanted to have the ability to draw anime characters and to show which anime characters are his favorite.

These three drawings are from my friend Matty(PS4: ItzAMe_MattyGee) and the drawing to the left is Zabuza Momochi from the anime series Naruto, the one in the middle is Kakashi Hatake from the anime series Naruto, and the one on the right is Dabi from the anime series My Hero Academia. The thing that I see important in these drawings is that my friend Matty draws as a hobby and his two favorite anime shows right now are Naruto and My Hero Academia but he wanted to show other people that anime is something fun to watch especially when we are on lockdown because of the CoronaVirus situation.

Week 12

Idea #11: Being Yourself can be Art

  1. My goal in this video was to give my opinion of what I thought about the Corona Virus and how it’s affecting stores.

2. I think that I did accomplish this goal because I did talk about the Corona Virus and I talked about how it’s affecting the stores and the public.

3. What I would do differently next time is to prepare what I’m going to say because I stopped talking frequently so that was bad on my part.

4. I would vlog again only when it’s going to a special occasion like going hanging out with my friends, to my older sister’s wedding, or when I travel to a different country.

5. My favorite YouTubers right now are I AM WILDCAT and TuxBird but I watch other YouTubers to pass the time since we are in lockdown because of the Corona Virus.

6. Their work is on the funny side of Youtube and I want to have a YouTube channel that will provide that type of content so that I can make people laugh like how I AM WILDCAT and TuxBird make me laugh.

7. The lessons that I can take from their work and apply it to my videos is to make sure that they are funny and that the viewer doesn’t get bored as the viewer progresses throughout the video.

8. Authenticity to me is defined as being yourself and being original and having exclusive ideas to show to the world and when you do that then that in itself is authenticity.

9. Performance to me is defined as having to pretend that you are someone else only for the entertainment for somebody else and that you have to copy the act or idea to perfection so that you can get a genuine reaction out of it.

10. I think that you can have performance and authenticity together because let’s say for example you are doing this trick that went viral on social media but you decide to add your own little twist to it and so that shows that you are copying what everyone else does but you make sure that the trick has “you” in it.

11. The clip where Jennifer Aniston is on Jimmy Kimmel’s show it is performance because the backstage crew tells Aniston what to do and that shows that they are prepared for what comes in order to give the audience what they want to see out of the show. The clip where they are both talking from their own houses has more authenticity because it is something that has never been done and Aniston probably doesn’t know what to do but she and Kimmel both try to give entertainment to the audience in their own way.

Week 10

Idea #10: Art is a good way to talk to your brain!

When I was drawing and remembering how the CSULB map looked like, I tried to remember how many buildings I have been to and what the names were for all the buildings that I have went to. I also tried to remember the abbreviations of all the buildings in the official map of the CSLUB campus.

When I saw what I had drew with my sister, I was surprised because I didn’t think that it was going to be that creative so when I saw my results I was worried on how it looked but I realized that it actually looked fairly good. This activity was pretty fun because me and my sister were messing around while we were drawing our art piece and so it was something that was entertaining while this whole coronavirus situation is going on.

Week 8

Idea #8: Your Realism is getting in the way of My Romanticism!

The lies that I've told
The things that Iv'e done
Hurt a lot of people and know that
I'm wrong
I'm Here to make amends,
So please hear me out
Ain't looking for a friend
But I'm stuck in a drought
Can somebody hear me
I'm laying in a sea.
Stranded and alone
I'm stuck I ain't free

What I was thinking when making these lyrics was to show that maybe someone has this sort of situation where they feel that they are trapped and don’t have a way to express their feelings.

My process of writing my song was to show that people might have something on their mind but I didn’t know what to put for the lyrics so I asked one of my friends if he can help me or give me an idea for the lyrics.

It was hard because at first I wanted to make a fun type of song but my friend told me that making a kind of sad song would make it a little easier since a lot of people can relate to sadness more which when I think about it, is also sad in itself.

I think or hope that my lyrics was successful in having a Romantic and realistic side to it and hopefully I won’t ever have to think and come up of making lyrics or a song in the future since I am nots do good in making a song or expressing my feelings publicly.

As I said right before this sentence I won’t make another song in the future because I suck at creating songs or lyrics and I hope that I won’t have a similar assignment in the future of my academic year in CSULB.

If I wrote another song then I might make it where it’s sad at the start but then towards the end I would make it where it shows signs of healing and that good things will come at the end of a situation.

Week 7

Idea #7: Counterfactual Identity

What I tried to do was to wear something that I don’t usually wear and that is bright colored clothes so I got a hoodie that had a bright-colored flower print on it and wore it while I went to school.

The person that I asked to guess my name and major was Irwin Cheung and I have him for my Chinese class. When he saw me with my hoodie on, he thought that I was a different person but then he realized that it was actually me and I asked him what he thought my name and my major was and he thought that I was called Chris and that my major was Computer Science. The way that he responded to me seemed like if I was a stranger to him because he never saw me wearing something bright so it probably surprised him when he saw that it was actually me.

What I thought about this experience is that I felt weird that my classmate thought that I was a different person. I had fun with this activity because I also went to my friends from high school and they were surprised that I was wearing something out of the ordinary. It felt nice to wear something different so I might start wearing different clothes because the activity was a breath of fresh air to me.

Week 6

Idea #6: Art can be Shocking!

I chose the idea that not everyone can be great at everything because whenever I tell people that I am learning Chinese they always assume that it is an easy language for me to learn and so they assume that I am somewhat smart.

I hope to communicate that learning a language isn’t as easy as it seems and that nobody has the ability to be excel at every subject because nobody is perfect. I took pictures of my Chinese notes and my last semester math class activity problems because I wanted to show that I wasn’t the best in math since I hate numbers and adding, subtracting, dividing, and multiplying the numbers but I wanted to show that I do like to learn Chinese even though it is a really hard language to learn.

I hope that I was successful enough to show that not everyone knows everything and that it is a good thing to not know everything and that makes you unique in this world and shows what your weaknesses and strengths are. It doesn’t matter what you don’t know because in the end you are you and nobody can change that about you.

If I were to do this again, I would make sure that I have a better idea to talk about because for this blog post I really didn’t know what I wanted to talk about since the purpose of this blog post is to show the truth about anything that you choose.

Another idea that I can explore through “shocking art” could be where I show some of the people I grew up Wirth and show how their lifestyle is if they permit me in documenting them and their lifestyle.

Week 5

Idea #5: Art is a good excuse to go to fun places

Me and my dad go to the Earvin “Magic” Johnson Park located at 905 E El Segundo Blvd on Saturday, February 22, 2020.
After taking a walk I see geese grazing on the grass as it begins to rain at Earvin “Magic” Johnson Park located at 905 E El Segundo Blvd on Saturday, February 22, 2020.
Going back home while it is pouring around the Los Angeles area on Saturday, February 22, 2020.
My dad parked the car on the side because the weather made the windshield fog up while we were still in the Los Angeles area on Saturday, February 22, 2020.
As we were waiting for the windshield to clear it started hailing and so I opened the window to stick my hand and I caught a piece of hail around the Los Angeles area on Saturday, February 22, 2020.
After arriving home I went to the canal near my house and missed the hail that happened in my neighborhood at Compton on Saturday, February 22, 2020.
After being in my house for a little bit I decided to go to the Compton Courthouse during the sunset at 200 W Compton Blvd on Saturday, February 22, 2020.

I chose this story because I wanted to show what I usually see or go to when I have enough free time to go walking around at Compton.

I think that I did pretty good job even though that the whole hail thing with the rain was an unplanned thing.

I think that my last image is the individually “best” image in my story because it shows the Compton statue and the Compton Courthouse under a cloudy sky that is clearing up as it turns into a night sky.

The image in my photo story that I think is not a “great” image but is important in telling my story is the one where I caught a piece of hail because the rain and hail played a part for my storytelling.

What I would do differently is to make earlier plans in where I should go but instead I relied on my dad to show me places that were and are part of Compton because I never knew that there were more places that were unknown in Compton until my dad showed me.

I don’t think that there are other photo stories that I would like to tell but if it was like a hobby or a thing to pass time then I would be willing to do it again.
