The artist that gave my class the presentation of her artwork was Sienna Browne and she told the class that she was an undergraduate student in CSULB. I didn’t get to catch what her program was but she said that she was having a showcasing on Friday, March 27th at 6-9 p.m. and the showcasing was gonna have her art in it. Sierra’s interest is to show how people evolve throughout their lives and to show how she changed as she grew up and became an artist. The ideas that Sierra’s work explores are how she was struggling with her eating problem and how she started to see how it affected her as an artist. Sierra wanted to show how her character and art style changed with her as she grew up and became a CSULB student.

The form of the art was pretty normal and medium-sized as it was projected on the board but I was able to clearly see the whole art and see how it’s shaped. The artwork had a lot of vivid and bright colors on them but there was another artwork that had dull and boring colors and that was the one that is shaped as a mouth. The first artwork that shows a female body with a ceiling fan as a head was undulating because it had very smooth lines on it and was appeasing to my eyes while the other artworks were sinuous because they had random curves and lines going in many places in the artwork. The artworks were pretty small since they were projected at the front of the class and I was sitting at the back of the class but I was able to hear and listen to what Sierra said about her artwork and see her artwork from a distance. All of Sierra’s artworks had different shapes and I think that that was a good thing since it gives uniqueness to all of her artworks and it shows how she worked hard on each artwork to make sure that it met her standards as an artist.

Sierra talked about how her art is to respect and see how a person’s past was like as they grew up and to learn from it so that they can grow and change better as a person. She said that her artworks are another version of who she is and that her artworks show her past, present, and potentially future of her whole lifetime. Sierra told the class that her artworks provide a history or progress of where she has been as a person and the things that impacted her, like her eating disorder, and what she had to do in order to win against her eating disorder. Her artwork shows how she had to fight many things as she was a student for her first three years in CSULB and how she got better as she would make her artworks which would take a lot of time for her to finish. Most of the artworks that she creates now are themed about celebration and victory over her unfortunate experiences of her life but all of her artworks show how she would always change her mind or idea of the artwork and create something that she finds appropriate during that time of her life.

I think that the artworks showed a visualization of change in a person and that it is alright to go through change since it is a good thing for a person to go through. Sierra’s idea resonates with my idea because I also think that change is good no matter if it is good change or bad change because it will mould you into a better person and to make better decisions in life. The formal nature of the art resonates with me because I have never seen art like that before and most art is always unique but Sierra’s art was relatable because it showed the hardships of life that I think everyone goes through. My life experience resonates with Sierra’s artwork because I have gone through so many negative and bad change but at the end of the day it made me into a better person that makes more better decisions. My academic experience also resonates with her ideas because I had bad grades on my first year in high school and that year of my life changed me and made me more responsible of my classwork and homework and made me see that I shouldn’t be wasting my time getting bad grades.
